PONCHO TIME

Eddi brought me a huger cape/ poncho last time he was in Bolivia but I had to wait all winter long to be able to finally use it. Ponchos are pretty awesome.

Is it real fur? :/ What do you think about furs in common?

Anonymous : Fur? No it's not, it would look totally different (thicker) then. And my husband would not buy me a fur for many reasons :D This is woven, probably alpacka wool as it is from Bolivia.

I don't like to write point-of-views on the internet because someone will always dot fuck you or read it wrong or so and to get it right you should write a thesis to not lead anything out. But here we go :)
I think fur is redundant as a material as it is not used for practical reasons (like back in the old-old days) but just as a luxury / status piece. Or mostly as such. Well if you've hunt an animal, eat it and use the fur and all bones etc it would be different. And good actually, to use everything. Vintage fur may be better in the sense that it is already produced, and thus recycled if used again, but one would fool oneself to think that the animal used in the fur lived a life any better in (for example) the 1950's than today. (Production may have been smaller and perhaps in that way better for the animals' conditions but then again there were less regulations for the "wellbeing" of the production animals, smaller cages etc)
To be honest, I don't think the fur industry much different than the meat industry. So I don't see a fur farmer any more "bad" than one with a meat farm, they produce to meet a demand. (Not that I think meat farmers are bad either, although I don't support the thinking of animals as products and do not like mass production with unnatural surroundings for the animals. Well I think you all know the deal. But I will not concur with some people I know that say "fur farmers should be shot" etc.) Of course the industries differ in the sense that consuming animal products for food makes more sense than just to make a fancy coat or trim on a pair of boots.
Banning fur farms is a bit of a nimby-thing. For example, Finland apparently exports quite a lot of fur. Conditions here are regulated. Not ideal (in this case there is no ideal is there) but regulated. A lot of the furs are sold to the Asian market. If they would not buy quality furs from here they will get the ones that you can see on youtube, terrible videos from markets in China and central asia where they skin the animals alive etc, and where animals are treated much worse than here. It's like a situation where you can never win - ban it here, it will flourish where it is worse. In an ideal world no one would want to use fur at all anymore, but I'm afraid that might never happen. I've read that wearing faux fur just continues the thing of wanting fur in general
From one point of view I am not sure someone wearing a fur coat is any worse than someone eating a ham sandwich. I don't wear a fur and I don't eat ham sandwiches but I do use some animal products, although less than the average person. So it does not make me any better on the end either. We are all part of the system anyway, in ways that we may not always think about. (Ok, this is starting to spread over the edges a little. Flow out. Illuminati and all that)
Well this is one way to see it.

Triton: Well I think jeans are a classic! I don't wear any for the moment but would like to get a pair, I'd need it for partial reasons. wold go for something classic like 501 but most likely a pair of repro/retro jeans.
